June 19, 2011 and December 30, 2011 are the first from an edition of sculptures that source their titles from the print date of the newspaper ephemera that have been used to make these pieces.

The word pomegranate translates to hand-grenade in Hebrew and Spanish, inspired by the fruit’s organic shape. Also, pomegranate as a recurring motif in art history symbolizing hope, resurrection, righteousness, fertility, health, abundance and prosperity makes it an ideal form to reflect the paroxysm of media’s propagandistically stimulated discourse.
